SCHEDULE: Evening hours 2:00 10:00 and daytime hours 8:00 a.m. 4:15 p.m., Monday through Friday. Hours may vary; must be available to work some evenings, nights, and/or weekends as needed.


JOB SUMMARY: The Employment Specialist II is responsible for assisting referred individuals to obtain and maintain employment. Duties include intake, assessment, skills training, job development and job coaching.  




  • Support individuals utilizing person-centered employment service models to help them to determine their career goals and to ensure their work is completed satisfactorily, meeting employer expectations.
  • Promote self-advocacy, self-determination, inclusion, satisfaction with services/outcomes, and informed choice; act as an advocate for individuals.
  • Work cooperatively and in coordination with all associates, authorizing and outside agencies, community partners, consumers, and family/circle of support to facilitate meeting the person we supports goals and objectives.
  • Assumes lead role in establishing and maintaining liaisons with community based employers, businesses, and industry to promote and maintain integrated community employment for people with disabilities.
  • Build relationships and work with diverse groups from various agencies such as Department of Mental Health, Department of Probation, ACCES-VR, and OPWDD.
  • Comply with documentation requirements of the program, and comply with agency HIPAA and Corporate Compliance standards.
  • Maintain regular communication with supervisor, return calls and emails in a timely manner, and notify supervisor immediately of significant events.
  • Represent the Arc of Steuben in a professional manner to businesses we serve and to potential customers.



  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • One year experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities required.
  • Certification in First Aid, CPR, and Positive Approaches within orientation period.
  • Completion of 24 hours OPWDD Innovations Training within first year.
  • Valid NYS driver's license and driving record acceptable to the agency's insurance carrier.
