SCHEDULE:  Primarily Monday - Friday days, some evenings and weekends will be required.                                 

 

JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Senior Program Coordinator and Planning Specialist or Rehab Manager, the Support Specialist provides any and/or all comprehensive service delivery within the division using a person-centered approach. Primary focus will be on site-based programs with support specialists working in day habilitation or site based and mobile services for those working in vocational rehabilitation programs. The Support Specialist will follow the National Association of Direct Support Professionals (NADSP) code of ethics. They will deploy and document activities outlined in the individual's service plan(s).  This position collaborates with behavior supports and the planning team regarding individual needs.  Support Specialist work in day hab will require attention to daily living skills (ADL's) which includes/but not limited to lifting, toileting, assisting with hygiene needs, transferring from wheelchair to chair or visa versa or other. Support Specialists working in vocational will be responsible for training, support and assistance to program participants in development of work skills, personal growth and career exploration.

 

 

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in the transportation of people we support to and from program each day.
  • Provides any and/or all comprehensive service delivery within the division using a person-centered approach
  • Follow the National Association of Direct Support Professionals (NADSP) code of ethics.
  • Deploy and document activities outlined in the individual's service plan(s)
  • Daily living skills (ADL's) which includes/but not limited to lifting, toileting, assisting with hygiene needs, transferring.
  • Uses effective communication skills to establish collaborative relationships

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:                                   

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Experience with special needs individuals is preferred
  • CPR/First Aid/ OPWDD regulated crisis prevention, intervention and resolution strategies within the first 90 days of employment. 
  • Medication Administration- required within one year of full time status.  Upon receipt of Medication Administration Certification person meets criteria of a Support Specialist II. See Support Specialist II job description for more information.
  • Valid NYS Driver's license and driving record acceptable to the agency.
