SCHEDULE:   37.5 hours/week, Monday - Friday          

 

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Rehab Manager, the Support Specialist provides any and/or all comprehensive service delivery within the division using a person-centered approach. Primary focus will be on mobile services for those working in vocational rehabilitation programs. The Support Specialist will follow the National Association of Direct Support Professionals (NADSP) code of ethics. They will deploy and document activities outlined in the individual's service plan(s).  This position collaborates with behavior supports and the planning team regarding individual needs.  Support Specialists working in vocational will be responsible for training, support and assistance to program participants in development of work skills, personal growth and career exploration.

 

 

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Under the direction of the Rehab Mngr. and Prog. Coord. The Support Specialisit provides any and/or all comprehensive service delivery within the division using a person-centered approach. Primary focus will be on site-based and mobile services.
  • The Support Specialist will follow the NADSP code of ethics. They will deploy and document activities outlined in the individual's service plan(s).
  • This position collaborates with behavior supports and the planning team regarding individual needs.
  • This position will be responsible for training, support, and assistance to program participants in development of work skills, personal growth, and career exploration.
  • The Support Specialist II is certified in medication administration, as well.
  • The Support Specialist will complete meaningful and billable service documentation based on services delivered.
  • The Support Specialist will maintain required certifications and annual training updates.
  • The Support Specialist will support a person's unique capacities and capabilities, get to know the person through assessment/discovery, promote advocacy with the individual.
  • The Support Specialist will follow proper safety precautions and support the safety of all individuals in everyday situations.
  • The Support Specialist will assist with coverage in another program area in emergency situations.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:          

  •  Associates degree in Human Service or related field preferred, High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 1 year experience with individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred.
  • CPR/First Aid/ OPWDD regulated crisis prevention, intervention and resolution strategies within the first 90 days of employment
  • Successful completion of Medication Administration certification when first available.
  • Valid NYS driver's license and driving record acceptable to the agency.
